Given our core focus on editorial works, we have a real fable for a good book fair. We’ve been travelling the globe to attend literary events for decades now, and last year we even decided to become an exhibitor ourselves at Frankfurt. Rather unsurprisingly, the Bologna Children’s Book Fair – held in a bustling Italian city steeped in history and cultural heritage – is a regular fixture on our calendar. This year, our CEO Jerry and our Head of Production Kasia joined the tens of thousands of visitors to this major industry get-together.
A whirlwind of events
Jam-packed with talks, workshops and exhibitions centring on hot topics, such as licensing, fostering a passion for reading amongst youngsters, digital media opportunities, and accessibility strategies, the fair gave us a chance to deep-dive into the important matters on the minds of our editorial clients and to keep our finger on the pulse as a one-stop-shop for literary translation.
A chance to touch base
We also relished the opportunity to engage with many a publishing professional from the worlds of school and STEM education, digital content, art, activity and gift books, social and emotional learning (SEL), not to mention graphic novels and comics. Chatting with such stakeholders enables us to explore the industry’s pain points and discuss how we can best address them when bringing content to new audiences.
We’ll be back for more!
After talking shop with fellow attendees and listening to a laundry list of talks, our team members Jerry and Kasia returned with a wealth of industry insights. We’ll certainly be returning to Bologna and are already looking forward to the other upcoming trade fairs on our schedule. You can catch us at the Museums + Heritage Show in London this May, the unmissable Frankfurter Buchmesse in October, as well as the International Council of Museums (ICOM) General Conference this November in Dubai.
