Meet Our Project Manager Team: Part 1 – Laura Germaney

A week in the life of our project manager Laura Germaney

Here at First Edition Translations, we have a five-strong team of project managers with two core focusses – commercial (e.g. life sciences, law, marketing) and editorial (literature, art, crafts and more).

Across five dedicated blogposts, we’re sharing some behind-the-scenes insights into what our stellar project team members do on the daily. In this article, we’re kicking things off with Laura, who primarily handles pharmaceutical and legal industry clients.

Laura’s week in a nutshell:

Monday: Thanks to the compressed hours scheme in place at First Edition Translations, I had the day all to myself. I went to a morning pilates class, read books with a tea in hand, got creative in the kitchen, and did aerial silks in the evening. The perfect day to come back recharged!

Tuesday: Today, I handled a Croatian medical updating request, two German-to-English aerospace engineering website translations, an English-to-Hungarian HR translation, and two quotes for Bulgarian-to-English and Chinese/Japanese-to-English legal paperwork translation. I also drafted blog content for our company website and processed a string of invoices for our fabulously hard-working linguists.

Wednesday: Besides a spot of admin, I kick-started the day with a Cypriot Greek pharmaceutical updating project, followed by a multilingual request for a PFCC (Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner) agency. To finish things off, I reviewed a German-to-English website translation.

Thursday: Today was spent managing a large centralised procedure (CP) translation project from English into the 24 remaining EU languages for three human pharmaceutical products. Requests of this size and scope require us to liaise with a great number of linguists, but luckily we work very closely with stellar medical translators who are always keen to support.

Friday: First on the to-do list was an English to Ukrainian translation for a council services provider, followed by a Type IB variation request for a pharmaceutical manufacturer. I also handled a request to translate court case paperwork from Bulgarian into English for a criminal defence lawyer.
