Have you ever wanted to meet Vincent Van Gogh? Well, I certainly have. He is my favourite painter after all! So when a request for an exciting new project came in from the Van Gogh Museum, I was thrilled. At that point, they were just preparing an innovative and interactive travelling exhibition, ‘Meet Vincent Van Gogh’.
The exhibition features various audio-visual presentations, facsimiles and hands-on activities for the whole family: you can even touch the dynamic surface of 3D reproductions of Van Gogh paintings. And that’s not all! You can sit with the potato eaters at their table or visit the Yellow House where Van Gogh lived. It sounds fun, doesn’t it?
As I mentioned, this is a travelling exhibition, with the first stop in China, which meant that all the materials needed to be provided in Chinese for the visitors. This is where First Edition stepped in and supplied translations from and into Simplified Chinese. During the course of the project, First Edition helped in the production of various exhibition materials and handled several different translation-related tasks from simple business card translations through video subtitling to audio guide checking. We edited and proofread both the adult and the children’s version of the exhibition’s colourful catalogue, and also worked on the panels that appear in the exhibition itself. Our Chinese translators, editors and proofreaders were certainly kept busy! Sometimes we worked with tight deadlines which was challenging, however, it was all worth it as in the end this amazing exhibition could open its doors in Beijing on time.
