A year in translation

Orange translate buttonSo, we are properly into 2014 now. How has it been for you so far?

I’ve been having a little look back at 2013 at First Edition. We had another great year with lots of interesting projects and some really beautiful books. Over two thirds of our turnover this year came from the publishing and pharmaceutical/health industries but we had plenty of other things to keep us busy – from websites to apps; e-books to museum guides; user manuals to legal documents.

As in previous years, the Western European languages proved most popular, with our top five language combinations being English to French, German, Spanish and Italian and German to English. But we also saw an increase in demand for Eastern European languages, for one project in particular, so were pleased to welcome new translators offering, among others, Azerbaijani, Belorussian, Georgian and Macedonian. Because all of our professional and experienced translators are freelance, we are able to source languages as required, to offer specialism and flexibility. And, of course, our translators only ever translate into their mother tongue.

So, thanks to all our clients and translators in 2013 and here’s to 2014!
