We were recently very pleased to be able to translate the exhibition catalogue for a new exhibition of paintings by Edward Hopper taking place at the Grand Palais, Galeries nationales in Paris.
Edward Hopper (1882-1967) was a prominent American realist painter and printmaker. The exhibition is divided into two main parts: his formative years (1900-1924) and mature years (1924-1966). Although best known for his oil paintings, he was also able to earn his living doing commercial illustrations and it was his etchings that “brought about a metamorphosis in his work and crystallized his painting”. These works are also presented at the Paris exhibition.
