Godiva Awakes

As we sit back to enjoy the next 10 days of paralympic action and excitement, a rather different Olympic event has caught my eye.

Back in July an incredible procession of carnivalists, young people, cyclists and a world class piece of public art in the form of a 21st Century Lady Godiva made its way from Coventry city centre to London to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

One of the artists currently exhibiting at Cambridge’s Primavera has been involved in the creation of the Godiva, which is part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.  Godiva Awakes re-imagines Godiva as a contemporary icon for the region, a symbol of courage, fairness, social justice, self sacrifice and sustainability
